Katie Stewart - YCB

Hi, I’m Katie, I’m the Women and Girls Development Manager for West Yorkshire at the Yorkshire Cricket Board. I am so excited to be launching this new Women and Girls Development Group for West Yorkshire; we have the most amazing team on board, full of passion and commitment to improving and enhancing cricket for females.

My own cricketing journey involves falling in love with playing softball cricket as a Mum after years of being around my husband, daughter and son who are all cricket obsessives! I then threw myself into a leading and coordinating role, setting up a women’s section from scratch at my own local club. I have directly experienced many of the challenges faced when trying to change the culture at a traditional male-dominated club – it is no walk in the park!!

Previous roles have included TV and radio journalism, and University lecturing. I aim to bring a varied skillset to both my YCB role and the role of Chair of this group, and most importantly, contribute to developing all aspects of the female game in this area.

About Us

Like all great things it started with just a thought, "wouldn't it be great if more girls played more cricket".  This website was set up to as a central place to share information about teams, clubs, leagues, tournaments and opportinites for womens & girls to play cricket.

Any feedback on the website is welcome so please get in touch - it's run on a volunteer basis.

My cricket life started at Otley CC playing the Airedale & Wharfedale Cricket League.  I was lucky enough to play in New Zealand for a year which was a fabulous experience.  When my daughter started playing I soon became in her words

'an over enthusiastic dad'!  It soon made me realise that there are lots of girls who would like to play cricket but don't for many reasons.

I hope this group can help develop Women & Girls cricket in West Yorkshire and remove the barriers.
